A protest organized by Armenian producers and exporters of alcoholic beverages took place outside the Georgian Embassy in Yerevan, expressing dissatisfaction with the ongoing border issues between Armenia and Georgia.
The protesters are calling attention to significant delays in the transport of Armenian goods to Russia, particularly the long wait times for trucks at the Armenian-Georgian border, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
The protesters claim that Georgian authorities have been demanding laboratory checks of Armenian products on Georgian territory, which has resulted in lorries being held up for weeks at the border. This situation, they argue, is causing substantial financial losses for both the producers and exporters, as well as the transport companies involved.
Carrying Armenian and Georgian flags, as well as signs reading "Hands off the Armenian producer," the demonstrators gathered near the embassy to voice their frustration. One protester explained that the lack of clear communication from the Armenian authorities has compounded the issue, with officials only informing them that "the issue was being dealt with."
A short while into the protest, an embassy employee came out to request a list of the companies affected by the border delays. After recording the names of several businesses, the embassy staff member returned inside. Despite this interaction, the protesters chose to escalate their demonstration by blocking the road in front of the embassy in both directions.
The protest highlights the growing tensions over the barriers facing Armenian exporters and the broader economic impact of the delays. Participants are calling on Georgian officials to provide a clear explanation and an official stance on the situation, urging swift action to resolve the issue.
