Azerbaijan participated in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and the 12th Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, both held in Geneva.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan reported the country's involvement in key international environmental forums, Caliber.Az reports.
Representatives from member states of the conventions, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and various European and international NGOs were present.
Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. Discussions at the conferences focused on legal, administrative, and management issues related to the implementation of the conventions in member states.
Topics covered included national legislative alignment with the conventions, clarification of lists of hazardous wastes, persistent organic pollutants, and chemicals, as well as the application of information exchange mechanisms and the provision of technical assistance to individual countries on convention matters.
The Azerbaijani Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva and other international organisations also participated in the conferences.
