NATO’s top military officer, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, reaffirmed the Alliance’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine and that such backing is essential to ensure Kyiv can negotiate “from a position of strength.”
Speaking in Brussels at NATO's headquarters on May 14, the Head of NATO's military committee said that while this would demand time and investment, "that cost is far less than the price of war and its aftermath,” Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
The Italian admiral stressed that continued support for Ukraine is crucial to deterring further Russian aggression, noting that European security is directly tied to the resolve of NATO members.
He also issued a stark warning, stating that member states risk facing a growing threat of instability without sustained investment. He described ongoing defence spending as a “vaccine of deterrence,” cautioning that reducing support would invite greater risks.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, NATO has dramatically expanded its aid to Ukraine—even though the country is not a NATO member. The assistance includes arms, ammunition, air defence systems, drones, intelligence sharing, and the training of Ukrainian forces. NATO allies have also provided extensive financial, humanitarian, and logistical support.
