Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has officially joined the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) CO2 Connect programme, enhancing its commitment to climate action by sharing precise, real-time emissions data per passenger based on operational factors like fuel consumption by aircraft type.
The agreement was signed at the Aviation Energy Forum in Baku, with AZAL’s Chief Commercial Officer Jamil Manizade and IATA’s area manager for Türkiye, Central Asia, and Azerbaijan, Funda Calisir, in attendance, AZAL told Caliber.Az.
This initiative is an essential part of AZAL’s broader strategy to reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to the global fight against climate change.
“We are committed to providing transparent, reliable data on CO2 emissions and supporting more sustainable travel choices,” said Manizade. “Through this collaboration, AZAL will help passengers make informed decisions aligned with our long-term decarbonisation goals.”
By joining the CO2 Connect programme, AZAL becomes part of a global network of over 60 airlines that are already contributing to this initiative. The platform provides an industry-standard approach to measuring and sharing aviation emissions, ensuring greater transparency and accuracy across the sector.
IATA’s CO2 Connect calculator not only helps airlines reduce discrepancies in emissions reporting but also meets the growing demand from corporate clients and individual travellers for sustainable travel options.
“CO2 Connect is a powerful tool that supports the decarbonisation of aviation through globally accepted methodologies,” IATA Regional Vice President for Europe Mr. Rafael Schwartzman said. “It is an essential resource for passengers and companies looking to understand the sustainability of their flights.”
