The events in Warsaw were aimed at preventing Poland from becoming a presidential republic, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said in a post on X, APA reports.
"The events at the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw last night were not elegant but the alternative was to concede an unconstitutional transformation of Poland into a presidential republic. Poland continues to be ruled by a coalition government elected by parliament," the minister stated.
It should be noted that tensions arose at Poland's Constitutional Tribunal on October 30 over the management of the government and judicial system. Following the decision to suspend Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski from his position, a protest was held outside the building. Polish President Karol Nawrocki cut short his visit and returned to Warsaw, describing the events as a violation of the constitutional order.
Sikorski had previously justified the police intervention by citing the need to restore the Tribunal's operations and allow judges elected by parliament to assume their duties.
