Albania to host 12th Black Sea Broadcasting Forum focused on child protection

The 12th session of the Black Sea Broadcasting Forum (BRAF), comprising broadcasting regulators from member states of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), will take place in Albania this autumn.

The decision was made following the 11th session held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The forum, supported by the Azerbaijan Audiovisual Council, gathered media regulators from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Serbia, Moldova, and Georgia. Representatives from the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Issues, as well as the Media Development Agency, also participated in the event.

The primary focus of the forum was strengthening the protection of children within the media services sector. Ismet Sattarov, head of the Azerbaijan Audiovisual Council, emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to make progress in this area.

Merve Safa Kavakcı, First Deputy Secretary-General of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat, stressed the necessity of closer cooperation with the EU and other international organisations on media-related projects, particularly in child protection.

Discussions at the forum centred on legal regulation and the effective implementation of mechanisms to safeguard minors. The role of media literacy and parental control was also addressed.
