Trade wars to affect all nations, Erdoğan warns

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that that trade wars pose global risks, with consequences for both large and small nations.

He made this statement while addressing the parliamentary group meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media outlets.

“Trade wars fueled by tariffs will have global repercussions. It is no exaggeration to say that a strong storm is coming that will affect everyone — big and small alike,” he noted.

According to the Turkish president, “the effects of the ‘earthquake’ in capital markets have not yet settled, and there is a strong possibility that some major economies will enter recession.”

Nevertheless, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is weathering global economic shocks with minimal losses.

“We are implementing a program that will solve our economic problems and make us resilient to future shocks. The world is facing serious uncertainty, but Türkiye has a strong economic program. We do not expect negative developments in trade, production, or exports. We will overcome this period more easily, as we are a country with low tariffs,” Erdoğan said.

Erdoğan also said that Türkiye plays a key role in shaping the new world order.

“Global players, sometimes willingly but often reluctantly, admit that it is impossible to create any geopolitical equation without Türkiye. And even if such an equation is formed, it is bound to fail without Türkiye,” the Turkish leader said.

He added that Türkiye is “no longer merely a bystander in the games of great powers, but has become a leading player implementing its own script.”
