US President Donald Trump has been questioning allies about the performance of Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine as he considers resuming military strikes against Iran.
Axar.az reports, citing the Atlantic, that a new round of attacks could take place soon after Tuesday's midterm elections, with the aim of pressuring Tehran into negotiations.
The report says Trump is also seeking to determine who should take responsibility for a war that his advisers had assured him would end before the midterms.
Some White House figures have questioned Hegseth's handling of the conflict, accusing him of presenting an overly positive picture of the war to the president. A Pentagon spokesperson rejected the allegations, saying Hegseth provides Trump with the full operational picture.
