Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen a “Fuhrer” for trying to bring to Brussels powers that had not been transferred to the European Union.
Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Lavrov made the remarks during a lecture organized by the Znanie Russian Society on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
“Ursula von der Leyen, whom we call Fuhrer Ursula, is trying to bring into the European Commission powers and responsibilities that, under decisions of the EU as a whole, were not transferred to Brussels but remain with national governments,” he said.
According to the foreign minister, this tendency is particularly pronounced in her case.
Lavrov noted that several years ago, when responding to a question about the Nord Stream explosions, von der Leyen said European voters would suffer from rising energy prices but “must suffer so that the Ukrainian people can defend European values.”
As the minister pointed out, no one asked the European Commission chief what values she was referring to. According to Lavrov, if banning the Russian language by law in education, culture, everyday life and the media reflects European values, then “welcome back to Nazism in Europe.”
