Armenia’s new Constitution should not reference the 1990 Declaration of Independence.
Axar.az reports, citing local media, that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the remarks in parliament while presenting his administration’s 2026-2031 program.
“Because we decided not to continue the ‘Karabakh movement’ and to put an end to it, and the people supported this decision. The process of drafting the new Constitution is purely part of Armenia’s domestic agenda. Armenian citizens supported this program by voting for the Civil Contract Party. Including a reference to the Declaration of Independence in the new Constitution would mean returning to the logic of conflict. The text of the Constitution will be published in the coming months. There should be no reference to the 1990 Declaration of Independence in the document. The Constitution of Armenia contains no territorial claims against Azerbaijan or any other country,” he said.
