Russia has sent notes to all foreign diplomatic missions requesting a ban on demonstrations near its embassies and consulates on the days of voting in the State Duma elections.
Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Maxim Ryder, Ambassador-at-Large and Deputy Chair of the Russian Foreign Ministry's election commission, made the remarks in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, Moscow expects "foreign countries to conscientiously fulfill their international obligations," but the Russian authorities, for their part, "will not sit idly by."
"Notes requesting appropriate measures to protect polling stations, including banning demonstrations near our diplomatic missions on election day, have been sent to all foreign ministries," Ryder said.
It should be noted that elections to the 9th convocation of the Russian State Duma will be held from September 18 to 20, over three days.
