Moroccan security services have dismantled a terrorist cell suspected of links to the Islamic State (IS) group in the Sahel region, according to a statement from Morocco’s Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations.
Ten individuals were arrested on suspicion of planning imminent attacks inside Morocco, Xinhua reports.
The arrests were carried out simultaneously across several cities, including Agadir, Taroudant, Casablanca, El Hajeb, Tetouan, Fquih Ben Salah, and Safi.
Authorities said seized materials included electronic devices, bladed weapons, combat equipment, and video content containing threats of planned attacks on Moroccan territory.
Investigators also searched a warehouse in the central city of Inzegane, where they discovered a four-wheel-drive vehicle fitted with a modified fuel tank, allegedly intended for suicide operations or vehicle-ramming attacks against sensitive targets.
Security operations are continuing as authorities work to identify and apprehend additional members of the network.
