Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said preparations for the upcoming summit are proceeding at full speed, with the main question being how differences between U.S. and European approaches to NATO will unfold.
Axar.az reports that Fidan told the Turkish newspaper Turkiye that numerous important issues are on the agenda, and it is impossible to make decisions on them at a meeting that does not include the U.S. president.
“Many European countries say that the fact the summit will be held in Türkiye under the leadership of our President is the main reason President Donald Trump is expected to attend. If it were not for our President and Türkiye, Trump would not come, effectively signaling that he does not consider the event important,” Fidan said.
He stressed that a number of critical issues lie ahead and noted that, in this context, the Ankara summit represents a major opportunity.
