A recount of ballots from 637 polling stations in Armenia has resulted in modest increases in vote totals for several political parties, but has not altered the overall parliamentary outlook, according to data released by the country's Central Election Commission (CEC).
The recount covered around 30 per cent of all polling stations and led to adjustments in the vote counts of the main contenders, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PPA) gained an additional 147 votes, bringing its total to 58,525. The Strong Armenia bloc received 508 extra votes, increasing its tally to 340,596, while the ruling Civic Contract party gained 1,148 votes, raising its total to 728,968.
The Armenia bloc also saw its vote count increase by 217, reaching 145,330 votes.
The recount additionally reduced the number of invalid ballots from 17,097 to 16,238.
Despite the revised figures, the Prosperous Armenia Party remains below the threshold required to secure representation in parliament.
The party had previously complained that 213 votes had effectively "disappeared" after the Central Election Commission annulled results from two polling stations. The CEC later announced the cancellation of voting results at an additional polling station.
As a result, the updated vote totals have not been sufficient to bring Prosperous Armenia above the electoral threshold needed to enter the legislature.
