Russia is seeking a lasting peace and is not willing to replace it with short-term, unworkable solutions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said while commenting on the idea of a “Christmas truce.”
Axar.az informs, citing TASS, Peskov said Russia’s position is well known, consistent, and transparent, adding that it is understood by the United States. He noted that it is also broadly understood by Ukraine.
He stressed that if Ukraine seeks to prioritize short-term, unviable arrangements instead of a genuine settlement, Russia is unlikely to take part in such efforts.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that “we want peace, not a ceasefire,” arguing that a truce would only give Ukraine time to regroup and prepare for further fighting. Russia, he said, wants to end the war, achieve its objectives, ensure long-term peace in Europe, and protect its interests.
“That is what we want,” Peskov concluded.
