Georgia plans to establish a new centre aimed at preventing, detecting, and curbing the illegal circulation of narcotics.
According to the Telegram channel of Sputnik Georgia, the centre will be a joint initiative between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, as outlined in a recent draft law.
The explanatory note accompanying the bill highlights a rise in vehicle exports and re-exports, with the national fleet increasing by 50,000–70,000 cars annually.
Amid this growth, authorities have reported a growing number of cases involving the illicit transport of banned substances across the country’s customs territory.
“Given the current challenges, there is a clear need to strengthen customs control and enhance the state’s institutional capacity to combat these crimes,” the document states.
