Iran, Azerbaijan discuss expanding customs cooperation

Negotiations have taken place to enhance customs cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, with a particular focus on strengthening ties between the Jolfa customs of Iran and the Julfa customs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to Iran’s Customs Administration, the meeting took place at the Iranian Jolfa Customs Directorate and was chaired by Ali Bisalam, Director General of Jolfa Customs in Iran, and Elkhan Khudaverdiyev, Head of Julfa Customs in Nakhchivan, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

During the meeting, Bisalam proposed a series of measures to improve cross-border operations, including tighter monitoring of freight vehicles crossing the customs post bridge, standardisation of fuel-transporting lorries, streamlining of vehicle queues at the border, and the introduction of a timetable system to prevent truck congestion.

Khudaverdiyev welcomed the proposals, stating that closer cooperation between the two customs administrations would enhance and simplify trade flows and support more efficient implementation of customs protocols.
