Sabirabad hosts regional meeting on cotton-growing development

A regional meeting on the development of the cotton-growing sector, as outlined in the “State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Production and Processing Sectors in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030,” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in Sabirabad on June 24.

According to AZERTAC's regional correspondent, the meeting focused on implementing instructions issued by President Ilham Aliyev during a May 25 conference on agriculture and ensuring the coordinated execution of the program across the regions.

The meeting gathered representatives of relevant government agencies, as well as farmers and entrepreneurs from the Neftchala, Salyan, Bilasuvar, Imishli, Beylagan, Fuzuli, Aghjabadi, Aghdam, Tartar, Barda, Goranboy, Yevlakh, Kurdamir, Sabirabad, Saatli, and Zardab districts engaged in cotton-growing.

Addressing the meeting, Zeynal Naghdaliyev, Assistant to the Azerbaijani President and Head of the Department for Territorial and Organizational Issues of the Presidential Administration, noted that, under the directives of President Ilham Aliyev, extensive discussions on the State Program have been held in 13 economic regions since June 12.

According to him, a total of 4,565 individuals participated in the discussions. He stressed that farmers and entrepreneurs operating in the agricultural sector expressed their support for the President's initiative and put forward important proposals.

Naghdaliyev emphasized that the systematic efforts made in recent years in line with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev in cotton-growing, one of the priority areas identified in the State Program, have created conditions for accelerating cotton production and increasing productivity and employment in rural areas. He added that the successful implementation of the program would increase the economic efficiency of cotton-growing, expand export opportunities, and contribute to the development of the non-oil sector.

In his remarks, Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture, briefed the participants on the current situation, development trends, and goals set out for the cotton-growing sector, stressing the importance of making effective use of the sector's potential and applying cutting-edge approaches to the production process.

Subsequently, Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), highlighted the critical role of water supply in the sustainable development of cotton-growing.

Other speakers included Samad Bashirli, Deputy Minister of Economy; Siragaddin Jabbarov, Head of the Sabirabad District Executive Authority; and Aziz Azizov, Head of the Beylagan District Executive Authority.

The farmers, entrepreneurs, and representatives of companies operating in cotton-growing shared insights on the development of the sector and the goals set out for its future growth.
