Real Madrid are preparing to renew Turkish midfielder Arda Guler’s contract after his impressive development and growing importance to the team.
Axar.az reports, citing Goal, that the two sides have reached an agreement in principle on a new deal that would run until 2031 and include a salary increase. The agreement is expected to take effect from the start of the current season.
Guler joined Real Madrid in 2023 on a contract until 2029 but has since established himself as an important player. Coach Jose Mourinho has given him a more advanced role, believing his attacking qualities can be better utilized closer to the opposition’s penalty area.
The new contract is also intended to ward off interest from Premier League clubs, particularly Chelsea, who have been linked with a potential move for the 21-year-old.
Guler made 51 appearances last season, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists. He has also scored once and registered one assist in four La Liga appearances this season.
