Iran accuses US of hindering World Cup travel

The Iranian Football Federation has accused the United States of creating artificial obstacles for the national team's travel ahead of its 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage match against Egypt.

Axar.az informs that, according to a statement published on the federation's official website, Iranian players arrived at the airport to travel to the match venue, but faced delays due to restrictions imposed by U.S. authorities.

“As in previous cases, the host country, the United States, once again created obstacles for Saeid Elahi and Mehdi Taremi, forcing the team to remain at the airport and causing delays,” the statement said.

Iran is scheduled to face Egypt on June 27 at Seattle's Lumen Field. Kickoff is set for 07:00 Baku time.

Earlier reports indicated that members of the Iranian delegation would only be allowed to enter the United States two days before the third-round group-stage match.

Iran drew 0-0 with Belgium in its second group-stage game after opening the tournament with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand.
