Explosion at Iran's Bandar Abbas port claims 65 lives

The death toll from a powerful explosion at Iran's key container port in Bandar Abbas has climbed to at least 65.

The blast occurred on April 26 in the Shahid Rajaee area of the port, the country’s largest container hub. It shattered windows for miles, ripped metal strips off shipping containers, and caused significant damage to the goods inside, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

A devastating explosion took place on April 26, 2025, at Iran's Shahid Rajaee Port, located near Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province. The explosion is believed to have originated from several containers at the port's wharf area, possibly containing hazardous materials or chemicals. In response, Russia has sent emergency aid, including planes and specialized firefighters, to assist Iran in managing the aftermath of the disaster. The incident has drawn comparisons to the 2020 Beirut port explosion, raising concerns about safety standards in industrial operations.
