Rubio plans State Department overhaul

A comprehensive reform of the State Department will begin.

Axar.az reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this.

He said that in its current form, the Department is bloated and bureaucratic, unable to fulfill its core diplomatic mission in the face of great power competition. According to him, the expanding bureaucracy has created a system that is more tied to radical political ideology than to advancing America's core national interests.

"That is why today I am announcing a comprehensive restructuring plan that will bring the Department into the 21st century. This approach will strengthen the Department from the bottom up, from the bureaus to the embassies. To increase functionality, regionally oriented functions will be consolidated, unnecessary offices will be closed, and illegal programs that do not meet America's core national interests will be terminated," Rubio added.
