NATO allies are considering a new €70 billion military aid commitment for Ukraine that could be announced at the alliance’s summit in Ankara next month.
Axar.az reports, citing Politico, the proposal, put forward by Germany, would establish a new funding target and introduce a mechanism aimed at improving transparency and burden-sharing among allies supporting Ukraine.
Diplomats said the package would combine €30 billion from the European Union’s previously approved €90 billion loan program for Ukraine and an additional €40 billion in bilateral military assistance from NATO member states.
“The key is to have a firm commitment from Ankara to continue the crucial support to Ukraine on a sustainable and more equitable basis,” a senior NATO diplomat told Politico.
The discussions come as NATO members seek to maintain long-term support for Kyiv more than four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion. Ukraine’s ambassador to NATO, Alyona Getmanchuk, said any new commitments should prioritize air defense systems, drone and missile production, and long-range ammunition.
The proposal remains under discussion, with NATO defense ministers expected to address the issue ahead of the July 7-8 summit in Ankara.
