Israeli woman charged with spying for Iran, filming Haifa oil refinery

A woman from the northern city of Nazareth is charged today with spying for Iran and filming sensitive sites, including the Haifa oil refinery, the police and Shin Bet announce, The Times of Israel reports.

The statement says that Shomua Abu Abed was detained in March and had been passing information to a foreign agent since October in exchange for cryptocurrency.

Abu Abed allegedly carried out numerous missions, including photographing security sites in Israel, IDF bases, and the refinery in Haifa, as well as transmitting information about an Israeli citizen — a former security official, the statement says.

Police have over the past two years arrested more than 50 suspected spies for Iran in roughly 38 cases that have been made public.
