Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Azerbaijani Centre of Analysis of International Relations Farid Shafiyev has said that Azerbaijan considers its cooperation with the Global South not only effective but also strategically beneficial.
Shafiyev made these remarks during a discussion titled “The Rise of the Global South and the West: Azerbaijan’s Role, New Opportunities for Cooperation and Development,” organised by the International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of the Azerbaijani parliament, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The chairman noted that the Global South has evolved beyond being a mere geographic term, emerging as a crucial political entity in the global arena.
“The influence of left-wing ideologies continues to be felt in the Global South,” Shafiyev noted. “However, the Global South is no longer just engaged in discussions; it is now taking concrete actions. Key issues, such as combating double standards, addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, managing refugee influxes, and advocating for international law reform, are now prominent on its agenda.”
He also pointed out that Azerbaijan’s diplomatic efforts had been supported by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which had played a vital role in neutralising attempts aimed against Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council between 2020 and 2023.
