Azerbaijan’s men’s and women’s teams both secured victories in the third round of the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
The men defeated Switzerland 3–1, while the women beat Sweden 2.5–1.5. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Aydin Suleymanli and Gunay Mammadova recorded wins, while the remaining players drew their games.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s men’s team defeated Morocco 4–0 and the Philippines 3–1, while the women’s team beat Guatemala and Denmark 4–0.
The 11-round Chess Olympiad, conducted under the Swiss system, will run until September 27, with 1,032 players representing 208 teams.
