NATO starts Swift Response 25 in northern Norway with high-intensity airborne drills

NATO's Swift Response 25 exercises have officially begun in northern Norway under US Army leadership, featuring five airborne operations, missile and artillery live-fire drills, with key exercises taking place on Sweden's Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea.

The drills will take place not only in Norway but also span across Sweden, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

The drills are set to involve 4,100 US troops alongside 1,900 soldiers from 14 NATO countries, highlighting the multinational scale of the operation. The US contribution to the exercises is largely made up of units from the 3rd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division, which has been transported all the way from the continental US. This brigade's participation underscores the alliance’s global capability and readiness for rapid deployment.

Major General Patrick Work, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, stated before the start of the exercises that they were ready for any mission, anywhere, and at any time. He also explained that Swift Response provided a realistic demonstration of the ability of multiple countries to conduct rapid and effective operations. The primary objective of Swift Response 25 is to bolster NATO’s preparedness and its ability to quickly deploy forces in response to potential threats in the northern European and Baltic regions.
