US President Donald Trump has suggested that the Atlantic Ocean could be renamed after he signed an executive order changing the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America.”
Axar.az reports, citing NBC News, that speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump said the United States could next consider renaming one or both of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
"So, the lake change, Lake of America, was something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. Actually, as you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico. We changed it, and now it’s very routinely the Gulf of America. So, if you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake; now, all we need is an ocean. So, maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we’ll change them both, Trump said.
Trump previously ordered the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” While US government agencies and some major technology companies adopted the new name, it has not been widely accepted internationally.
Lake Ontario has been known by its current name since at least the 1600s.
