On June 5, 2026, CNN published a report citing its self-invented “sources,” claiming that Israel had allegedly used the territory of Azerbaijan during its war with Iran, the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a statement, APA reports.
The statement said that the dissemination of clearly fake information by one of the world's well-known transnational media companies without referring to any facts is regarded as a deliberate act of gross information manipulation.
“By spreading disinformation and disregarding the values of media ethics and the fundamental principles of professional journalism, such as maintaining balance in news reporting, CNN has not only tarnished its own reputation but has also acted as a propaganda tool in a hybrid war. The disinformation disseminated by CNN is a political provocation directed against Azerbaijan and regional security as a whole. The publication of this information is aimed not only at creating confusion within the international community but also at undermining regional stability and interstate relations and creating tension in the region. It has been repeatedly stated at the highest official level that under no circumstances has the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan been used against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and such fabricated and biased reports constitute gross information manipulation. We demand that CNN, which threatens regional security and tries to confuse public opinion by disseminating information contrary to the principles of media ethics and journalistic professionalism, issue a rebuttal and apologize to Azerbaijan,” the statement said.
